Build a movie and TV watchlist in Notion

Virgile Gouala
After this: a Notion Media database for films and series, with title, creator, and type captured from any page. Free plan.

Streaming has a discovery problem. You find something worth watching, you don't watch it now, and by next week it's gone from memory and from your queue.

A watchlist only works if it takes less than two seconds to add to it. Filed makes the save one click.

The capture

On any film or series page: IMDb, Letterboxd, JustWatch, a streaming service, a review, a trailer. Click the Media button in the Filed toolbar. Filed extracts the title, creator, and type, then creates an entry in your Notion Media database.

Properties created in Notion on each save
  • Title (film or series name)
  • URL (source page)
  • Creator (director or showrunner, where available)
  • Type (Film, Series, Documentary)
  • Saved date

Working with the database

Filed creates the Media database when you first connect your workspace. The default view is sorted by saved date. Add your own status tags from Notion: Want to watch, Watching, Finished. Filed doesn't impose a system. The structure is yours.

A watchlist that's hard to add to becomes a list of titles you meant to watch.

Any source, not just streaming platforms

The Media workflow works on any page where a film or series is the subject. Reviews, recommendation lists, festival pages: if Filed can read a title and a creator, it captures both.

The Media workflow is part of the free plan.
