Record a voice note from within the side panel. Filed captures the audio and transcribes it in parallel. Both land in Notion.
How to record
- Open the side panel (click the Open panel button in the toolbar)
- Click + → Audio memo
- The audio recorder activates in the side panel
- Speak your note
- Click Stop when done
- Review the live transcript that appeared while you were recording
- Click Save to send to Notion
Microphone access: On first use, Chrome will prompt you to allow microphone access. Grant it once. Filed stores your available input devices for future sessions. You won't be prompted again unless you revoke access.
Switching microphones: Click ≡ (hamburger) in the toolbar → Audio input. Your available microphones are listed. Select one to set it as the default.
What lands in Notion
Audio memos create two things in Notion:
- Audio file: uploaded directly to the Notion file API from your browser. Appears as an audio block in the page body and in the
Audiofile property (Captures database only). No audio data passes through Filed's servers. - Transcript: the text captured by the browser's speech recognition while you recorded. Saved as a 🎙 callout block in the page body and in the
Transcripttext property (Captures database only).
Both always land together. There is no option to save audio without transcript or transcript without audio.
Transcript accuracy
Transcription uses the browser's built-in Web Speech API, which runs locally. Accuracy depends on your microphone quality, ambient noise, and accent. The transcript appears in real time as you speak. Review and edit it in the side panel before saving.
For accuracy-critical notes, proofread the transcript before clicking Save, or type your note as a text block instead.
Privacy
Audio never leaves your device until saved. The Web Speech API processes speech recognition locally in the browser. No audio recording or interim transcript is transmitted to Filed's servers. Only the final transcript text is sent to Notion.
Limitations
- Requires microphone access. If you deny or revoke the permission in Chrome, recording will not work. Re-grant access via Chrome's site settings.
- The side panel must be open during recording. Recording cannot run in the background while the panel is closed.
- Not available on
chrome://pages, the Chrome Web Store, or the PDF viewer. - Very long recordings may hit browser memory limits or produce large audio files.
