Something not working?

Common issues with connection, saves, shortcuts, and workflows, and how to fix them.

I can't connect to Notion

  • Make sure you're logged into Notion in your browser before clicking Connect
  • Try opening Notion directly in a tab and confirming you can access your workspace
  • If the OAuth window opened and then closed without confirming, try again, sometimes the browser blocks pop-ups
  • If you see "Access denied", check that you selected Allow access (not Cancel) in the Notion dialog

My save didn't appear in Notion

  1. Open the side panel → History, a red "Failed" badge means there was an API error
  2. Click Retry from History to re-send queued or failed captures
  3. Check your internet connection, captures queue offline and sync automatically when you reconnect
  4. If History shows "Success" but the page isn't in Notion: check that the destination database still exists and hasn't been deleted or moved

Quick Capture isn't working

  • Quick Capture doesn't work on chrome:// pages, the Chrome Web Store, or the PDF viewer, this is a Chrome restriction
  • Check that the shortcut hasn't been overridden at chrome://extensions/shortcuts
  • Make sure Filed is connected to Notion (open Filed settings → Account)

Screenshot capture isn't working

  • Click Snap or Full page in the toolbar's Instant zone, screenshots are always available there, no settings change needed
  • Screenshots don't work on chrome:// pages, the Chrome Web Store, or the PDF viewer
  • If a save succeeds but no image appears in Notion: the screenshot upload may have timed out. Try again.

The selection toolbar isn't appearing

  • The toolbar appears on text selection. Make sure you're selecting text, not clicking
  • On some pages, the host page's CSS may visually hide the toolbar. Try a different page to confirm
  • If you dismissed the toolbar once, it will reappear on the next text selection

My workflow fields aren't being filled

  • If you used the Visual Workflow Builder: the CSS selector may have broken due to a site redesign. Rebuild the mapping for the affected field.
  • If you're saving to a database property: check that the property name in your workflow mapping matches the property name in Notion exactly (case-sensitive)

The workflow builder shows "Database not connected to Filed"

Filed doesn't have access to the selected database, this is a Notion permission requirement.

How to fix (one time per database):

  1. Open the database in Notion
  2. Click ··· in the top-right
  3. Click Connections
  4. Find Filed and toggle it on

Databases that Filed creates (Captures, People) are always connected automatically. Only databases you created separately need this step.

What Filed doesn't do yet

Firefox support. Firefox is supported. Install from addons.mozilla.org or search "Filed for Notion" in the Firefox Add-ons store. Chrome, Firefox, and all Chromium-based browsers (Brave, Arc, Edge, Opera, Vivaldi) work out of the box.

No iOS support. The mobile app is Android only for now. Open app.usefiled.app in Chrome on Android to install it.

No workflow import or export. Workflows are stored locally in your browser.

No real-time sync with Notion. Filed writes to Notion. It doesn't read back or sync existing content.

No view filter pre-configuration. Views are created with the correct layout type but filters and grouping must be set manually in Notion.

Highlights don't persist across tabs. Highlights disappear when you close or refresh the tab.

Audio memos are transcript-only. No audio file is saved. Speech is transcribed locally in the browser via the Web Speech API. Only the text transcript is sent to Notion, directly to Notion's API, not through Filed's servers.
